Brown County Communications Center, Green Bay WI
Brown County Public Safety Communications Center continuously strives to offer the most effective and efficient services to the citizens of Brown County including about 230,000 people and 43 Police, Fire and EMS agencies.
Brown County recently opened a new facility with 57 dispatchers, 6 supervisors and 5 administrative personnel to provide around-the-clock service to the community. Each dispatcher relies on an efficient facility design focused on each individual to get the job done productively.
The County’s recently built Communications Center is a state-of-the-art communications facility to help create a safe, ergonomic and environmentally friendly work area for the 9-1-1 professional staff. “By providing the highest quality, ergonomic workstations available, we will be able to create a safe and less stressful environment for our 9-1-1 team, which allows them to focus on the critical role they have in providing help to the citizens and responders of Brown County. ” says Shelly Nackers, Communications Manager. The new facility houses 18 new X5 consoles dedicated to the mission of 9-1-1 dispatching as well as two X5 consoles in the training rooms. It was important to Brown County to build a sustainable and environmentally responsible building equipped with new furniture that meets their new green initiative standards.
Shelly Nackers and her dispatch team were directly involved in the process from the beginning. They began the project by looking for an equipment vendor to complete the installation in their new center by June 2009. Once the RFP for console furniture was issued, several solid finalists emerged. Not only was Xybix up front regarding standards and the cost of the workstations including add-ons, the furniture was very customizable. Secondly, it was very important for Brown County to implement their GREEN initiative throughout their innovative center and become a LEED certified center; Xybix is now GREEN GUARD® certified fulfilling the needs of green centers striving to be LEED certified.
Brown County worked closely with Xybix Systems, specifically Xybix designer, Nicol Schnitzer and Mid West Territory Manager, David Berglund, during their planning, budgeting and implementation phases in order to undergo a successful install. They began the process by assembling a team from within that included telecommunications personnel who work on the consoles and equipment daily. This team also included, Lead Telecommunicators, Supervisors and Management members. The team came together in each phase of the project from the initial presentation, reviewing detailed specifications of the equipment, floor designs, complete mock up, set-up, and demonstration providing an opportunity for the personnel to get a hands-on feel for the Xybix console equipment. “The Xybix team was there throughout the process answering all of our questions, sharing information and knowledge as well as offering solutions that could be designed on the fly to fit the needs of our center,” states Shelly Nackers.
Brown County understood the value of the high quality, user friendly and state-of-the-art ergonomic console equipment that included the RollerVision technology, MyClimate, workspace layout, DataDock, cable Management, Media Centers and all the storage it offered.
Shelly and her team found Kelley Smith, our National Install Manager and his team to be helpful and friendly and always very on point throughout the install. The entire Brown County team worked diligently with Xybix designer, Nicol, who shared her experience regarding communication center layouts and how to tailor the building for best functionality as well as traffic flow. Shelly appreciated having Nicol ‘s expertise to help guide them through the design process enabling them to make good decisions while providing several web design meetings as a helpful tool to visualize how the new center would look.
Each day Brown County is reminded of the dedication, years of experience, design ability and the accessibility of the design and installation team. “We appreciate Xybix’s willingness to think outside the box to create a unique and highly functional environment based on the needs of Brown County Public Safety Communications instead of trying to fit a standard type of console to our needs. The Xybix team has been instrumental in the successful installation and has been quick to address any questions or concerns that do come up,” added Shelly.
